Reel Breakdown
1. Fairy Garden

I designed this environment to pair with my character, Bloom. Since she's a fairy, I wanted her to have a fairy garden where everything is much larger than her. I was on a time crunch for this project, so I didn't want to make it too complicated but I still wanted the space to be filled. I put a lot of grass with a large mushroom as the centerpiece, with some mushrooms in the back to provide more whimsical shapes to the garden. I also added a lily of the valley, one of my favorite flowers! And of course, I needed to add fairy lights and a fairy circle made with rocks. And as usual, I wanted to do nighttime lighting because I wanted the fairy lights to illuminate the scene along with some lights in the lily of the valley. Since the mushroom was the center, I wanted to highlight that as well with a light under it.

2. Bloom

This is my first character model! I wanted to design a fairy character, but not with the typical whimsical dresses that I see on fairy characters. I thought it would be fun for Bloom to wear casual everyday clothing, like a modern fairy that flies around Manhattan listening to music. I was super inspired by the Peach Riot figures from Pop Mart.

3. Armillary Sphere

This is a model I made for the thesis project, "Star Shine" from Shane Zhang and Nick Fu of SVA's Class of 2025. This was my first time working on a thesis project and I was super excited to collaborate with the seniors! I was asked to model and texture an armillary sphere as a prop to put in the film's planetarium scene, so I found several references of these spheres and I combined elements from several to model this one. Although this model didn't end up making it into the film, it was a fun project.

4. Orrery

This is another model I did for "Star Shine." I was asked to model an orrery for the planetarium, which I had never heard of before, so I found several references online and combined them to make this one. This was a super technical object to model, and it was a little difficult to get everything, especially the gears, to fit together. But I'm proud of how it turned out and it made it into the final film!

5. Ferris Wheel

This ferris wheel was inspired by beaded charm bracelets that I love to wear. Creating this helped me practice rigging and understand parenting. I had a lot of fun modeling and lighting the scene, I really enjoy nighttime lighting! The different carts of the ferris wheel are "beads" of the bracelet and they were inspired by clay charms I saw on Pinterest. I textured the carts in Substance Painter and I played with Arnold atmosphere to make the lighting more hazy.

6. Hot Dog Truck

Based off illustrations done by Minya and Yuuri, I wanted to create an everyday scene which brought nostalgia. Rather than having this take place in the day, I wanted to experiment with lighting at night because I thought it would feel more cozy and warm. Everything was built in Maya and the textures were
drawn in Photoshop. Lighting was also done in Maya.

7. Hong Kong Cafe

This was a personal project that I started with my freshman mentor, Doris Huang. I was inspired by scenes in Hong Kong, especially Hong Kong cafes because they are some of my favorite places to eat!
While looking for references, I decided I didn't want a super old or a brand new cafe. I wanted to replicate the cafes that were neighborhood staples where people would gather for a quick meal or to catch up with their family and friends. Again, I combined several references to model this scene and I added some basic lighting to replicate a middle, end of the day meal.
